Getting there

Lifts gave us some fun on our journey, going up and down to the wrong floor, doors opening and closing and in the hotel in Bourg en Bresse an out of use antique lift distracting some from the real lift.

We had an excellent breakfast in our hotel in Bourg en Bresse and crossed the road to the station in good time for our train. We all agreed that the overnight stop had worked extremely well.

The train to Geneva was on time. We had discovered we had quite a long wait in Geneva so hunted for lunch. The first cafe declined to serve 10 of us so we ended up in Starbucks. Finding loos turned out to be non trivial – several of us gave up and waited for the train.

The train to Sierre/Siders seemed fine but, despite being Swiss was running 5 minutes late putting our connection with a post bus at risk. In the ensuing rush, much to the embarrassment of the conductor, 3 people got left on the train – the doors closing on them just as they were about to get out. The rest of us had missed the bus in any case and, between finding where to catch the bus (not easy) and wondering what had happened to the three missing, were some time gathering at the bus stop. A phone call (blessings on mobiles) sorted us out. The three missing had got out at the next stop and were able to return in time for the post bus.

The bus journey was non standard due to road works. Hairpin bens, with vertiginous edges, on single track roads with trucks coming in the opposite direction kept our interest!

The second bus dropped us right outside our hotel. We were given a very friendly welcome and settled in.
