Connemara with Walking Group R

In May 2023 we had a holiday with Sheffield u3a Walking Group R. To view a slide show of each block of pictures, just click on one of the pictures:

David and I went a week early and stayed in the old Post Office at Lettergesh. The first few photos are taken from this week. We particularly enjoyed our adventurous climb up Benchoona and our trip to Inishturk.

Walk through the Maumturks

This was the Group’s first walk. The day was showery and the walk ended with a soaking but the views on the way were enjoyed.

The second day was clear sunshine all day enabling those who wished to climb Ben Gorm. The others walked the Famine Road alongside Killary Fjord (Harbour).

Tully Mountain

The next day was again sunny and we ascended Tully Mountain on our way to our second hotel in Clifden. The descent was steep and tricky. Afterwards we realised we should have gone down the way we went up after exploring the top.

Free Day

Five of us went to visit a beach on Ballyconneely in the morning and Kylemore Abbey in the afternoon. The weather was again sunny. We were not in time for the concert in the neo-Gothic Church but did enjoy the Tim Robinson exhibition and the Victorian Walled Garden.

Inishbofin

Another sunny day and we took the ferry to Inishbofin. Most of us then followed the waymarked purple walk which loops round the West of the island.

Errisbeg and Dog’s Bay

Our final day was again sunny (unbelievable weather!). Several of us decided to tackle Errisbeg and others explored Dog’s Bay. We all met on Dog’s Bay at the end. The ascent of Errisbeg was reasonably straightforward. We did, however, need to take care on the descent though it was nothing like as steep as that from Tully Mountain.
