St Luc – Bisse

We had been told that today was a village fête, the Fête-Dieu (Corpus christi), so we hung around for a bit to see the procession.

We then set off shortly after 11 to do the suggested Bisse walk to Ayer. The first stage is a steep uphill to the Pierre Sauvage. Once we had found where to start, this was managed pretty well. We then followed the Bisse ( channels of water for irrigation etc). Although it was quite warm, we were mostly in the trees so it worked well. There were waterfalls and flowers to entertain us.

Our instructions said we should turn sharp right at one point. We were fairly sure we had identified the turn but there was no sign post and clearly there had been some recent work on the footpaths. We decided to follow the new signs to Ayer instead. We continued on our way but we could see from the map that we had some way to go so decided to take one of the routes back to St Luc. However we then decided to walk through Gilou. The sign after this no longer showed St Luc, so rather than continuing to Ayer we decided to descend to Vissoie. However part way down we came to a road that went back to St Luc more or less contouring round to our hotel. This worked well, though some took a path instead of the road. This worked as well but probably with more difficult uphill.
