Day 5

We started the day with a brief visit to Haghartsin Monastery which was part of the same complex as our hotel. It had been extensively restored. There was a good viewpoint nearby.

We then went to Yell Extreme Park and Lastiver Trail Head, needing taxis for the unmade road to reach there. Our taxi got a flat tyre on the way! We walked down the trail to a gorge with a steep drop to the right of the path. Near the bottom we made a short scramble down to explore the impressive Lastiver caves, where people had been living as recently as the 1960s. We regained the path and continued down to the waterfalls. After a stop at the cafe, we returned the way we had come and had a late lunch. For the whole of the walk, except the scramble to the caves, we were accompanied by a pair of dogs. None of us were tempted by the zip wires at the extreme park so we chatted and then made our way to the next hotel, our last in Armenia.
