Arrival

On the drive to Grundarfjörður we took a short walk up an attractive crater at Eldborg.

Grundarfjörður

The weather at our first hotel was rather wet and extremely windy. We managed two of the walks, however, and had excellent views of the iconic Kirkjufell. Waterfalls were flowing well!

On the way to Hellnar

We took a break at Ólafsvík where we visited a small folk museum and went up to the water fall.

After lunch we took a shortish walk out to Önderverðarnes, going across lave fields and then back, not far from the sea, to the lovely beach at Skarðsvík. As the photographs show there was still plenty of wind!

Hellnar

We took two lovely coastal walks here on the first two days. On the third day we took five short walks from a track going up to the glacier. Two craters, two waterfalls and an ascent a foothill, Hreggnasi. We then went down a lava cave.

Returning to Reykjavik

On our last day we took a detour and went to revisit Geyser, where there are various geysers including Strokkur. We also revisited Gullfoss.
