Our first walk, track of walk, from Kato Potamia to Kourounochari took us past various Byzantine churches and through Olive Groves. We saw some old water wheels – at least the top gear wheel. Towards the end of the walk we saw some broken statues. These had been created in a marble quarry, but had got damaged during transportation so had just been left. We also passed through Olive Groves.
Naxos is known for its marble and during our stay there we saw the quarries high on the hills and the marble in use, particularly as paving for the narrow streets and steps in the villages.
