We had a bit of a drive to our walk today. This was longer than expected as a landslip had closed the road. After watching the workman clearing things for a bit, the local postman told Luka about an alternative route we could take. This was a rather exciting route up and over a ridge.
The walk itself was a form of horseshoe going over 2 or 3 peaks. We went up to a saddle and then some of the group went up a peak on the left while the rest went up to the right. The first group then returned to the saddle and followed the others. They were found looking at an old Italian barracks. The walk was following the Italy:Yugoslavia border from 1918 - not the current Italy:Slovenia border. There were bunkers on almost every hill top. We then had a lovely walk skirting below the main ridge. The views were superb.
After exploring the bunker on the third top, which needed torches, we descended to the car park and home via the newly cleared road.
When we returned to the hotel we were greeted with cakes and cups of tea or coffee.
