We flew to Tromsø where we had dinner and spent the night. The drive to our hotel on Sommarøy, which began in an impressive underground road system including roundabouts, was attractive but marred by the persistent low cloud. We were impressed by the significant number of roller-skiers on the cycle paths by the roadside. It was raining quite hard when we arrived so we did not rush out. When it had more or less stopped we did the recommended walk through the village and round a good part of the coast of the island. This was an excellent walk despite the frustrating low cloud and we enjoyed sightings of whimbrels and red breasted mergansers.
In the evening we took a local walk near the hotel.
