These walks use the 273 which goes out along the A57 and turns up the Derwent Valley to Fairholmes before going to Castleton via Bamford. The 273 is not very frequent so the walks usually use a different bus for the return.

Fairholmes to Hope (15.5km/9.5 miles)

Waterfall

This walk starts at Fairholmes (on the 273 bus route) and finishes in Hope on the 272 route (that goes to Castleton along the Hope Valley).

It goes up onto Lockerbrook Heights and as far as Alport Castles (rock formations).

The route goes down the Alport Valley, crosses the A57 and on up over the shoulder of Edale Moor. It then follows a roman road and finishes down in Hope. There is a choice of cafés and pubs in Hope.

Cutthroat Bridge to High Bradfield via Back Tor (17 km/10.5 miles)

Curlew on Derwent Edge

This walk starts at Cutthroat Bridge (on the 273 bus route) and finishes in High Bradfield on the 61/62 routes. These buses are quite frequent and return to Hillsborough bus station, from where there are many bus connections in addition to a nearby tram stop.

It goes along Derwent Edge to Back Tor. It then goes down to Strines and past Dale Dike reservoir.

The route continues past Agden Reservoir and then goes up through woods to emerge by the church at High Bradfield. There is a choice of cafés and pubs in High and Low Bradfield.

Fairholmes to High Bradfield via Abbey Brook (16.5 km/10.25 miles)

It starts along Derwent reservoir and then turns to go all the way up Abbey Brook. At the top of Abbey Brook, it picks up the main path, Dukes Road, along Derwent Edge and follows it to Mortimer Road

The route then follows a path that emerges by the church at High Bradfield. There is a choice of cafés and pubs in High and Low Bradfield.

Moscar to Fox House (11.5 km/7 miles)

This walk starts at Moscar on the A57 and walks along the edges as far as the Fox House. It is a walk with lovely views (on a clear day). As the walk essentially goes along the top of the edges, navigation is usually straightforward. It can, however, be windy.
