These walks use the 272 which goes out along the A625 and past Fox House at one end and the 218 (215 on Sundays) which goes out towards Bakewell and the White Peak. This bus normally leaves Sheffield via Psalter Lane, Abbey Lane and Abbeydale Road.

Fox House to Baslow (11km/6.5 miles)

Orchids in Cressbrook Dale

This walk starts at Fox House Inn,on the 272 and 65 bus routes, and finishes in Baslow on the 218 route. It goes along White Edge with views of Curbar Edge below to the right and moorland to the left.

It then takes a track that leads to the Wellington monument on Baslow Edge. The track passes attractive silver birch woodland.

The walk finishes by descending into Baslow for the 218/215 bus back to Sheffield. There is a good choice of cafés and pubs in Baslow.

Bradwell to Bakewell (18km/11.5 miles)


This walk starts in Bradwell, on the 272 bus route, and finishes in Bakewell, on the 218 route.

It follows footpaths over farm land to Great Hucklow an then goes through the village and onto Grindlow. From Grindlow it heads for Wardlow Mires, via Silly Dale.

The route then goes through Cressbrook Dale. A little after Cressbrook Mill the route joins the Monsal Trail. After a stretch on this trail it takes a right hand footpath up and over a hil and then descends to Bakewell for the 218/215 bus back to Sheffield. There is a good choice of cafés and pubs in Bakewell.

Baslow to Hathersage via Froggatt Edge (13.5km/8.5 miles)


This walk starts in Baslow, on the 218 bus route, and finishes in Hathersage, on the 272 route.

It leaves Baslow on footpath that starts along a farm road and continues under Baslow Edge. It continues under Curbar Edge and then rises to join the footpath along Froggatt Edge.

From there it descends through woodland to Grindleford Station. The route proceeds to join the path along the Derwent River as far as the Leadmill Bridge. It then crosses a couple of fields and enters Hathersage. There is a good choice of cafés and pubs in Hathersage.

Fox House to Dore Station (10.5km/6.5 miles)

This walk starts at the Fox House on the 272 bus route and finishes at Dore Station which is on several bus routes, including the 218.

The start of the walk is across moorland with views back to Higger Tor and over to Sheffield. The route then passes through Totley and enters suburban woodland. It follows Totley Brook to Mickley Lane and then after a short spell of road walking enters Poynton Wood. The walk ends by going down Twentywell Lane to Dore Station.
