Transfer to Guayaquil
It was an early start today (4.00 am) with a hair raising drive through the narrow streets of Cusco to get to the airport on time. All was well, however, and our flights went reasonably smoothly. After checking in, we went for a walk to the Bolivar park where we saw our first iguanas and turtles. We had one or two tantalising glimpses of interesting birds.
Free day in Guayaquil
We made up for the previous day's early start with a bit of a lie in. We asked about going to Cerro Blanco, a park 30 mins drive away with Howler monkeys and birds, but it looked a bit too complicated and expensive so we walked down to the riverside instead. Here we made up for the previous day's tantalising glimpses. In particular our lunch at the Victoria cafe gave us some great bird watching! Pale-legged hornero, tropical kingbird, snail kite, saffron finch, striated heron, yellow crowned night heron, black crowned night heron.
